Ashbourne sets the benchmark for Pinotage and this innovative new vegan-friendly blend (2019 is the third vintage ever) has only just become available in the UK, making it pretty hot property. We think we might have just found your new favourite summer red… Created using an unoaked combination of 84% Pinotage with 16% Cinsault from old vines in Swartland (the region that really made South African wine cool), the depth and richness of the Pinotage is perfectly balanced by bright breeziness of the Cinsault. It's only made in limited quantities, so it's in short supply. This beautiful Hemel-en-Aarde Valley winery is owned by Anthony Hamilton Russell. Pinotage produced here is elegant and refined, far more reminiscent of fine Burgundy than it is of the slightly overcooked, rubbery and banana-flavoured wines that give this grape its unfairly dubious reputation. Prepare to be surprised. Tim Atkin MW awarded the 2019 vintage 92 points, and described its predecessor as follows:"It's a tangy, tart, pomegranate and summer berry style with fine tannins and no wood at all."£2.5 per 100.00ml
