Bodegas Amézola De La Mora Viña Amézola Rioja Crianza 2016 Red Wine
Bodegas Amézola De La Mora Viña Amézola Rioja Crianza 2016 Red Wine
Awarded 91 points by Master of Wine Tim Atkin, Viña Amézola Crianza is a Rioja that offers exceptional value for money from a producer to keep a careful eye on. A blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo, that's matured in oak for 15 months and an additional 9 months in the bottle, this red is elegant, structured and classic. Rich and silky smooth, it tastes like blackberry jam, raspberries, wild strawberries, spiced plum crumble, vanilla, nutmeg, truffles and a warm comforting hug. Somehow, it just tastes exactly like good red wine should. Serve it alongside tapas, slow-cooked stews, roasts, wild mushrooms, game and cassoulet. We reckon it's worth picking up two bottles, because this is fast becoming our go-to weekday red wine. María and Cristina Amézola Downes are two of the youngest bodega owners in Rioja Alta, the western part of Rioja that stretches from Logroño to Haro. They inherited Bodegas Amézola de la Mora when their father Iñigo died in a tragic accident. Although the 60-hectare family estate very much remainsa classic Rioja producer, these two siblings are experimenting and putting their stamp on it. With a little help from consultant Georges Pauli, formerly of the ever-popular Château Gruaud Larose in Bordeaux, their wines are some of the most exciting we've tasted from Rioja in a long while.£2.26 per 100.00ml
