Château L'Evangile Grand Vin Pomerol 2005 Red Wine
100 points,"A perfect example of Pomerol. Always a perfect wine."- James Suckling 99 points,"A near perfect growing season, and this approaches perfection as it glides across the palate, with sweet fig and torrefied notes, salted caramel and saline. Utterly gorgeous. Could be drunk with huge pleasure right now - with an amazing balance and feather-like expression that lifts the whole thing up - but there's no rush."- Decanter An exquisite wine from the Rothschild family. Expect an eruption of blackberries, Chambord, liquorice, blueberry pie, plum jam, black olive tapenade, truffles, mocha, crème de cassis, smoky barbeque coals, caramel, damson and chocolate. Beauty in a bottle. Château l'Evangile is one of the Pomerol's oldest producers, tracking its history back to 1741. It sits on a long strip of gravel in the south-eastern part of the appellation and is bordered by two illustrious neighbours in the form of Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc. Acquired in 1990 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, it produces what is regularly one of Bordeaux's most majestic and long-lived wines. Predominantly composed of the variety Merlot, an addition of Cabernet Franc imparts structure and complexity to the wine, which is aged in French oak for around 18 months before release. Make this wine the centrepiece of an unforgettable evening.£53.33 per 100.00ml
