Craggy Range Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 Red Wine
94 points,"Plenty of rich, red and darker-cherry aromas with spices and woody allure. There's a supple and silky feel to the ripe fruit here. This has attractive depth and concentration with a wealth of fleshy, fine yet sturdy and tightly woven tannin, carrying ripe, succulent red and dark-cherry flavours."- James Suckling Craggy Range have a real knack for uncovering incredible sites in often overlooked areas. This is just what they did with the Te Muna Road Vineyard, just outside Martinborough on the North Island. Divided into two terraces, one for Sauvignon Blanc and one for Pinot Noir, it produces exquisite wines. The Te Muna Road Vineyard Pinot Noir is fermented in a combo of stainless steel and French oak, and it's matured in French oak barriques for ten months. This adds a silken feel, earthy spices and woody depth to the ripe cherry, cranberry, raspberry, plum and rose petal flavours. We recommend decanting this bottle of joy and sipping it alongside seared duck, meze or tagine. Terry Peabody's wife and daughter convinced him to establish a family wine business in the 1990s. After travelling the world in search of the perfect spot, he settled on Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. This spot was chosen because of his love of big reds, particularly Syrah and Bordeaux. Today, Craggy Range is one of New Zealand's most prestigious and highly awarded wine producers, boasting an enviable portfolio spanning various varieties and regions.
