There is excellent vibrancy to the beautifully delineated medium weight flavours that culminate in a dusty, serious and sneaky long finish. This needs to develop more depth but it should be capable of that as there is good underlying material. One to consider."- Allen Meadows, Burghound Pommard is a large and often overlooked appellation, possibly because there are no Grand Cru sites and some of the wines can be a little hard and powerful. However, there are no such issues with'Tavannes'from Fernand&Laurent Pillot. This is a broader and rounder style with a sweeter richness than most. Dark blackberry is lightened by the tang of raspberry, damson and cherry, and it's shot through with toasted coconut, spice, rosemary, dried mint and iron. This has the legs to run for many years, but it's drinking beautifully now and will pair with anything from pâtés and terrines for lunch to rich game dishes and roast pork at dinner parties. Clearly a man who knows how to multitask, when Laurent Pillot isn't making this wine or taking care of his family, you might find him flying his microlight or his hawks, or maybe even conducting the local brass band.
