Refined, appetising with high acidity giving freshness."- Decanter 91+ points,"A knockout Rosato bubbly."- Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media Ettore Germano's Rosanna Rosé is something a little special, which is probably why it was featured in Decanter's Wine of the Year 2020 tasting. Nebbiolo, the grape responsible for Barolo and Barbaresco, is often compared to Pinot Noir, in particular the wines of Burgundy. But few winemakers take that perceived similarity and apply it to Champagne method sparkling wine. Except for Ettore Germano. Rosanna Rosé is made using the same techniques made famous in Champagne but using Piedmont's superstar grape variety, Nebbiolo. 80% of the first fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with the remainder in old wooden barrels. The second fermentation occurs in bottle, and it's aged on the lees for at least 18 months, which is longer than legally required for non-vintage Champagne. This zero-dosage fizz presents many of the delicious flavours associated with Nebbiolo, for example rose, orange peel, violet, raspberry, cherry and wild strawberry, plus the roasted nuts, poached pear, orchard fruits, brioche, spice and lemon peel notes more commonly found in the finest sparkling wines. Elegant and refined, this is one of those best of'both worlds', perfectly at comfortable for celebrations or as an aperitif, but also gastronomic enough to be paired with lobster bisque, pork and prawn dumplings, pink duck breast, gnocchi, smoked salmon or a caprese salad in the sunshine. Established in 1856, Ettore Germano is located in Cerretta, one of Serralunga d'Alba's most important crus. Over the last few decades, the estate has become one of Piedmont's brightest stars, famed for its big, rich and long-lived Barolo.£5.33 per 100.00ml
