93 points,"This is an intense, characterful wine in an extreme style, best served with food, but I loved it."- Wine Advocate Described by Jancis Robinson as a"fun and joyous"wine, Champagne Geoffroy's Rosé de Saignée Premier Cru Brut is a carnival of strawberry, spice, raspberry, blood orange and blackberry. While many Champagne producers seem to be moving towards paler rosé styles that offer little difference to the white versions, this is dark, tannic and downright exhilarating. Made from 100%Pinot Noir and aged on the lees for well over three years, the result is deeply vinous and gastronomic. This wasn't designed merely for frivolous celebration, it's a food wine to its very core. So, pop the cork with schnitzel, beetroot risotto, charcuterie, pasta with fresh cherry tomatoes, meaty seafood, pink game and Christmas leftovers with cranberry sauce. Champagne Geoffroy's house style is one of thrilling fruit and immense character, making the wines a joy to drink. Industry expert Richard Juhlin says that he recommends all the wines produced by Champagne Geoffroy - formerly known as Champagne René Geoffroy - and that"the grower is better than ever"- a ringing endorsement that Harvey Nichols wholeheartedly agrees with. Based in Aÿ, Vallée de la Marne, the Geoffroy family can trace its grape-growing history in Champagne back to the 17th Century but they only started vinifying their grapes rather than selling them in the 1950s. Their approach is wonderfully old-style and eco-friendly. For example, the soil is aerated by animal-drawn plough, wild grasses spread through the vineyards promoting biodiversity, fermentation normally takes place in oak and the gravity-fed winery still uses ultra-traditional Coquard basket presses.£6.93 per 100.00ml
