Isabel Estate Isabel Sauvignon Blanc 2021 White Wine
Jeremy McKenzie - former winemaker at Villa Maria - has what appears to be a pretty gruelling schedule, what with making six different wines, raising his three children, competing in ironman competitions and risking life and limb participating in various extreme sports. But he still finds time to rescue the occasional young girl from a flood (for which he was honoured by the Royal Humane Society for Bravery) or disarm illegal poachers. Why not place your wine choice in the safe hands of a certified hero? Isabel is one of the oldest estates in Marlborough, but far from being staid, it has a young and vibrant team who produce some of New Zealand's most exciting wines. Hailing from another warm year, the Isabel Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is classic Marlborough with notes of nettles, gooseberry, kaffir lime leaf, morning dew, elderflower, mango, guava and lashings of passionfruit. A small proportion is fermented in barrels, imparting a wonderful creamy texture that sets this apart from the competition. And the old vines add a classy minerality. Try alongside creamy avocado, salty cheeses, ceviche, spicy Thai and Vietnamese salads or citrus-accented dishes. As heroic as the man behind it; precisely what Bonnie Tyler was holding out for.£2.87 per 100.00ml
