Expertly made Semillon with extended bottle age is one of life's great joys. Kilikanoon's Pearce Road Semillon 2015 comes from a standout vintage for this variety. The extra maturation in bottle is adding smoke and petrol notes to the classic Semillon character of dried hay, grass, chamomile, honeyed fruit, melon and mandarin orange. Barrel fermentation, six months in oak and lees stirring has also created a creaminess reminiscent of lemon curd and porridge. This is something very special that will appeal to fans of white Burgundy and Bordeaux. It's no secret that we're big fans of Clare Valley's Kilikanoon because they create our own label Shiraz and Riesling. Mort Mitchell, father to Kevin the winemaker and proprietor at Kilikanoon, first planted vines in the now infamous Mort's Block vineyard in South Australia over 40 years ago. With their trusted secateurs, or'snips'as they're affectionately known, Kevin and his team still lovingly tend those vines to this day.
