96 points,"A lovely ferny nose and breezy seaside raciness. Bright yellow fruit on entry, a flicker of preserved lemon and cooked quince adding vibrancy. Then comes the Krug richness which spreads over the palate. The balance hovers tantalisingly between tactile precision and soft warm fruit and the finish reveals layers of cinnamon-tinctured blancmange, and the creaminess goes on. Rich but light on its feet. A definite buy and a keeper… a triumph of blending."- Decanter 96 points,"Striking citrus focus here, with intense yellow citrus aromas, such as lemon and grapefruit, as well as flinty notes, wet stones and dried flowers, such as chamomile. Just the beginnings of more savoury character, in the form of toast, cocoa powder and grilled nuts. The palate has a very taut, youthful and unevolved feel, showing elevated acidity and verticality as a central feature, around which the body and depth has been assembled."- James Suckling The experts have spoken, the Krug Grande Cuvée Champagne 170ème Édition is another triumph. But that is to be expected, as respected Champagne critic Richard Juhlin explains…"Krug is more than a Champagne. It is a word that stands for artistry, tradition, craftsmanship and moments of pure pleasure… All Krug's wines are small masterpieces… If the opportunity arises, never miss the chance to drink a Krug!"While vintage Krug provides a unique - and undeniably delicious - snapshot of a certain year, their Grande Cuvée is the real pièce de résistance in our opinion. And, as Richard Juhlin advises, we never pass on an opportunity to partake. Every year Krug releases a new edition based around the consecutive youngest vintage. Although each one is slightly different, they seem to transcend the foibles and fripperies of vintages to produce something uniquely Krug. The Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition is an elaborate blend of 195 wines, barrel-fermented from predominantly Premier and Grand Cru sites and 12 different vintages. Based on the 2014 vintage, but with components dating back to 1998, it's matured in their cellars for around six years. 2014 was a challenging year, so the Pinot Meunier is much lower in the blend. This was balanced by increasing the proportion of reserve wine, which adds immense complexity. The Grande Cuvée 170ème Édition is exceptional, brimming with notes of almond croissant, smoky bakeries, toasted hazelnuts, crème brûlée, brioche, honeycomb, grapefruit zest, lemon curd, fresh pear, quince, nectarine, praline, marzipan, gingerbread, sea-swept beach pebbles and marmalade on buttered toast. This Krug has a long life ahead of it. Adorned with musical scores, the limited-edition Echoes Gift Box features access to a specially curated piece of music via a QR code that will further enhance your enjoyment.
