Lemberg Lady 2019 White Wine
Lemberg Lady 2019 White Wine
""My mother told me to be a lady. And for her, that meant be your own person, be independent."- Ruth Bader Ginsburg Just like Ruth Bader Ginsburg was, Lemberg's Lady is fiercely original, inspiring, game-changing and a powerful force to be reckoned with. This vegan-friendly blend of rich Viognier, elegant Hárslevelü (a rare grape variety famed for its use in Hungary's Tokaji), zingy Sauvignon Blanc and textural Semillon buzzes with energy and more floral aromas than Kew Gardens. Lemburg was founded by the pioneering Janey Muller, one of the first female winemakers of the South Africa's modern era. She was championing exciting grape varieties like the ones that go into this wine long before the neighbouring Swartland region became'revolutionary', and in doing so paved the way for the likes of Andrea Mullineux. This wine is her legacy. Expect honeysuckle, fresh orange peel, marmalade, peach, pear, spiced gingerbread biscuit and pebbly beach notes, but also to want a second bottle almost immediately. Serve with lightly spiced dishes, such as dal or creamy Vietnamese curries, fun, friends and feminism. Surrounded by mountains and pressed up against the uber-trendy Swartland, Tulbagh is one of South Africa's lesser-known wine regions, but stylishly intriguing wineries like Lemberg look set to put it firmly on the fine wine map. Established in 1978, Lemberg became famous for being the smallest estate on the Western Cape, but now it's loved for producing some of the country's most intriguing, innovative and unique wines. Although proudly South African, their story is strongly tied to Europe. Lemberg is the old name for Lviv the city, then in Poland and now in the Ukraine, that the original winemaker's husband came from; they are renowned for the ever-fascinating Hungarian grape variety Hárslevelü; and visitors are welcomed by their four English bulldogs.£2.33 per 100.00ml
