Hailing from Japan's northernmost prefecture, the island of Hokkaido, Yoichi Aromatic Yeast is a Single Malt with herbal peat smoke, baked apple, poached pear, melon, kiwi, mint, lily, coconut cream, pineapple and arnica aromas. The palate delivers a similar profile complemented by smoked sea salt, garden herbs, earthy peat, summer wildflowers, ripe plum and greengage jam. Built in 1934 Yoichi was Nikka's first distillery. Masataka Taketsuru chose the position in Hokkaido due to its similarities to Scotland. Gently peated, Yoichi displays delicate smoke and sea spray nuances because of its proximity to the sea.
