Make cocktails that kick like a mule. This limited-edition gift pack contains a bottle of Patrón's classic Silver Tequila and a pair of metal mule mugs with handles shaped like the iconic bottle. You'd be forgiven for thinking that the classic Moscow Mule, served in a copper cup, was born in Russia. But the very first was actually made in Manhattan. This cocktail knows no border, having versions inspired by New Orleans, Tuscany, France, Glasgow and Jamaica. However, our favourite are the Mexican ones, made with the finest Tequila. To make a Jalisco Mule, add a double shot of Tequila and half shot of lime juice to each mug, fill with crushed ice, top with three shots of ginger beer and garnish with lime. Then progress onto a Watermelon Mule or even a spicy Kicking Mule - made with the addition of a couple of slices of fresh jalapeño and a dash of Averna Amaro and agave syrup. The team at Hacienda Patrón say:"We didn't invent Tequila, we just perfected it."And when you taste their spirit, it's obvious that they really have. Each bottle takes thirty people to hand craft it. The process starts in the Jalisco highlands, where the Weber Blue Agave takes eight or more years to ripen. These huge plants are then harvested and chopped manually. The enormous hearts, or piña, are baked in brick ovens for at least three days, before being crushed with an almost two tonne volcanic stone Tahona wheel. The juice is then fermented for 72 hours. After which, it's distilled in handmade copper stills by David Rodgriquez, who took over when the legendary Francisco Alcaraz retired. The Tequila is finally filled into artisan bottles and topped with a bulbous cork created in Lisbon. Each painstakingly perfect step is carried out by hand. And as if that wasn't enough, Tequila Patrón also recycle their water, compost their leftover agave, invest in sustainable agave, plant trees, educate their workers, support their community food bank and work with two orphanages.
