Penfolds Bin 144 Yattarna Chardonnay 2015 White Wine
97 points,"The heart of this great Chardonnay is its balance, and the extreme length built on its bracing acidity."- James Halliday First launched with the 1995 vintage, Bin 144 Yattarna is the result of one of the most comprehensive, focused and highly publicised wine development projects Australia has ever seen. Penfolds had a dream to create an ultrafine Chardonnay that would set the benchmark for the country; they achieved this using fruit from cool-climate regions. Crafted using Chardonnay grown in Tasmania (84%) and Adelaide Hills, Yattarna is aged for eight months in French oak and needs to be tasted to be believed. More wood-driven than previous vintages, this big-boned white ripples with muscular chestnut, oatmeal, white chocolate praline, ripe pear, white peach, tarte tatin, vanilla, French apricot pastry and pencil shavings. The name Yattarna comes from the Aboriginal language, meaning"little by little". And gradually this wine is raising the standard of Australian Chardonnay with every new release. Penfolds is certainly Australia's, and possibly one of the world's, most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844, it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the"Wines of the Century". Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert, their winemaker who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative, often multi-regional, blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds, and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.£18.67 per 100.00ml
