Pio Cesare Rosy Langhe Rosato 2020
Pio Cesare Rosy Langhe Rosato 2020
Although famed for their Barolo and Barbaresco, the family behind Pio Cesare has a great fondness for full-bodied rosé with great ageing potential. So, they decided to make their own and they named it after the founder's granddaughter, Rosy. Crafted in tiny quantities (so it's extremely hard to come by) using Nebbiolo and a splash of Syrah (mainly from the Barbaresco area), Rosy is matured on the lees in French oak barrels for almost a month. What emerges from those precious casks is a fresh and savoury rosé with wonderful spices, mountain herbs and red berry fruit. Although it makes a stunning aperitif, it's such a food-friendly wine that it could be paired with anything from spicy Asian dishes to a simple tomato salad. And unlike many other rosés that need to be consumed promptly before they start to fade, this is a wine with a long life ahead of it, and it will continue to improve and evolve for many years. Pio Cesare was established in 1881 and was run by the fifth generation of the family, Pio Boffa, until 2021, when he sadly passed away after battling Covid-19. His daughter, Federica, has now taken over the business and carries on her father's legacy with passion and determination. As one of the first producers to truly start shouting about the immense potential of the Piedmont region's wines and one of the first to export to the UK, Pio Cesare has always been an industry leader. And as Wine Advocate quite rightly notes:"You have to love the energy and dynamic thinking that comes out of this historic cellar located in the city centre of Alba."£3.07 per 100.00ml
