Go on, push the boat and'seas'the moment to introduce yourself to one of England's most exciting spirit producers. This gift box contains a pair of multi-award-winning gins made at Salcombe Distilling Co. - one of the world's only distilleries that's accessible by boat. Inside, you'll discover: Salcombe Start Point London Dry Gin Miniature 50ml, 44% - Named after the iconic lighthouse built in 1836 to protect shipping navigating around Start Point on the Devonshire coast, this gin is crafted from Macedonian juniper, the peels of red grapefruit, lemon and lime, and nine other botanicals including coriander seed, cardamom, cubeb berries, liquorice and angelica root. Within a crowded market it shines like the beacon that inspired its name. Heady citrus, warming spices and a pine-laced character that fully deserves all the awards it has received (Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, 3 Stars from the Great Taste Awards, Platinum at the SIP International Drinks Awards, Platinum and 96 points from the Beverage Testing Institute and Gold at the World Gin Awards). Salcombe Rosé Sainte Marie Dry Gin Miniature 50ml, 41.4% - Named after another lighthouse, this time Sainte Marie that marks the southern entrance to the Old Port of Marseille, from which Salcombe Fruit Schooners would bring fruit to the UK. Capturing the essence of the Mediterranean coast, this is distilled using Macedonian juniper, strawberries, angelica, citrus peels, lemon verbena, rose petals, orange blossom and pink peppercorn. An incredible summery gin that makes for the perfect sundowner with premium tonic water and a slice of strawberry. Salcombe is a small fishing village in South Devon famed for its smugglers and shipping. Fast ships called'Salcombe Fruiters'would race their cargoes of valuable but perishable exotic fruit and spices from the Azores, Iberia and the Mediterranean to eager markets in the UK. When steamships took over this trade, many of these nippy schooners were requisitioned for the stockfish trade from Newfoundland, credited by some as being the world's first industrial scale food production line, something that would change the way we eat forever. Fast forward to 1995 and most of the boats leaving Salcombe are used purely for pleasure. And that's how Angus and Howard met. While working as instructors at the Island Cruising Club, they would convene over a sundowner gin and tonic at the Salcombe Yacht Club. With their shared love of the finer things in life - travel, water sports, the finest food and obviously craft gin - it was here that the idea for the Salcombe Distilling Co. dropped anchor. Their gleaming 450 litre copper pot still, called'Provident', was installed in 2017. Since then, the awards have come sailing in, and they've collaborated with chefs like Monica Galetti, Michael Caines MBE and Mark Hix MBE.
