Santiago Ruiz Rosa Ruiz Rías Baixas Albariño 2021 White Wine
The story of Albariño has been bottled and it's called Rosa Ruiz. The Ruiz family has been making wine in Galicia since the 1860s.Ángel Ruiz was one of the very first people to produce and bottle wines in the region. Inspired by his grandfather's pioneering spirit, Santiago Ruiz installed the first stainless steel tanks in Rías Baixas. His contribution to the modernisation of the local wine scene earned him a street name in San Miguel de Tabagón in his honour and he's now widely considered the father of Albariño as we know it today. His daughter, Rosa Ruiz, continues the legacy with this old-vine Albariño made in memory of summer afternoons spent in her father's historic winery. The grapes for Rosa Ruiz Albariño 2021 come from O Rosal, the most southerly sub-region of Rías Baixas. Located on the north bank of the Miño river (just across from Portugal's Vinho Verde territory), O Rosal enjoys more sunshine and lower rainfall than the other areas. The specific old vines used here were planted near the winery in San Miguel de Tabagón. They produce tiny yields of extremely concentrated fruit that's bursting with flavour and complexity. The wine was matured on the lees for five months to add the texture, body and weight required to carry the intense apricot, mango, lemon sorbet and blossom. The vibrant acidity buzzes like a livewire and the elegant finish dances across the palate like a ballerina. This vegan-friendly Albariño is a limited edition, with only around 6,400 bottles made each year. The label was inspired by a photograph taken of Rosa and Santiago Ruiz in the winery in 1993. That red door is an invitation into their world and Albariño heaven.£3.47 per 100.00ml
