Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia Bianco 2019 White Wine
Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia Ornellaia Bianco 2019 White Wine
97 points,"So sophisticated and elegant, a brilliant expression of Sauvignon Blanc with smoky, stone, lemon aromas alongside pear and green apple - aromatic and so open. Excellent mouthfeel, there's such a lovely weight, slightly viscous with a hint of sweetness but then you get this clarity and complexity from clear aromatics but also the freshness. Nothing is too much, each part playing out in terms of weight, structure, acidity and length. It's the succulence then at the same time the salinity that captivated me, the two playing against each other with the support from plumped up and cushioned fruit giving the overall weight. Really lovely - a treat to taste."- Decanter Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is responsible for one of the most famous red wines on the planet, but few get a chance to taste their rare white wine. The estate began playing with this idea for this wine back in 2006, but the first vintage released was the 2013. Like it's red sibling, Ornellaia Bianco takes a little inspiration from Bordeaux. So, it's predominantly barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, but where it departs from Bordeaux's whites is the inclusion of Viognier. So, imagine Graves with a healthy dose of Tuscan sunshine and a little more richness from the Viognier. Made in tiny quantities, Ornellaia Bianco pours a wonderful straw colour with flashes of green. The nose carries aromas of ripe peach, lemongrass, pear, melon, jasmine, asparagus, sage, thyme, beeswax and white balsamic. On the palate, it displays vivid lemon, blanched almond, chalk, beach pebbles, grapefruit, honeysuckle and so much more. You can drink it now, but it will continue to improve for a decade. If you want to taste this masterclass from Ornellaia then don't delay, because we only have a handful of bottles. Ornellaia is one of Tuscany's most iconic wines and, in the words of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, it's"one of Italy's blue-chip properties". Founded in 1981 by Lodovico Antinori, brother of Piero who created Tignanello, control passed to Robert Mondavi and then on to Frescobaldi, but despite this tumultuous history, its popularity has never wavered. Located in Bolgheri in Maremma, Ornellaia is a Bordeaux-inspired blend and one of the ultimate Super Tuscans. The estate also creates a number of other reds, a rarely seen white wine called Ornellaia Bianco and an even rarer sweet wine called Ornus.£35.33 per 100.00ml
