Launched recently to critical acclaim,"Doubled Oaked"provides an interesting and delicious twist on Woodford Reserve's iconic straight bourbon whiskey. Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is first matured in new charred white oak barrels, as usual, but before bottling is transferred to a special heavily toasted and lightly charred finishing barrel. This gives it quite a different flavour, with more spicy oak notes coming through on the nose and palate. Although clearly an oakier style of Woodford, the wood character is not overwhelming and lies in perfect proportion and harmony with the base whisky. Aromas of cinnamon, vanilla, mixed spice and white chocolate are suggested on the nose, whilst the palate is mellow and intense, suggesting flavours of toasted oak, baked apples, brown sugar and raisins.
